Kenya White is a woman with many interests – the top two being cooking and technology. To further pursue her interest in cooking, Kenya majored in culinary arts and began working in the field after graduating. However, Kenya continued to build a passion and talent in technology, and decided to pursue this growing interest through a new career! Luckily, Kenya had some transferable skills from her career as a chef to bring to her budding technology career. “Both [culinary arts and technology] require excellent customer service and effective multi-tasking skills,” said Kenya.
She soon discovered IT Career Lab after seeing a brochure, but initially, due to lack of funds, Kenya decided against enrolling in IT Career Lab and tried pursuing her new career path on her own. However, sometime later, Kenya saw another material advertising IT Career. At this time, she was in the right place financially to enroll, and that she did!
After a few weeks and a lot of studying, Kenya earned three globally recognized certifications – Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT), and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)! “My favorite section of the IT Career Lab coursework was the networking academy. The curriculum and the exercises were laid out extremely well by the instructor,” said Kenya.
When looking back through her career journey, Kenya said, “I will keep learning. I want this to be my last career change. I’m so glad to have had careers in both my passions. I love technology because it’s forever changing and innovating! There is longevity in the career.”
Best of luck, Kenya!
