Isaac Ochoa was working part-time while completing his studies at Harold Washington College when he unfortunately found himself unemployed. After six months without work, Isaac discovered National Able Network and was enrolled in the EPIC (Employment Opportunities, Personalized Services, Individualized Training, and Career Planning) program to help him take the next step in his career.
“I was studying biology but was interested in more technical things,” said Isaac. “Also, I noticed that with a biology degree there’s not much you can do without a master’s degree. So, I wanted to pursue a career in technology.”.
As part of the EPIC Program, Isaac was able to attend IT Career Lab to earn certifications that would allow him to begin a career in Information Technology. He also worked one-on-one with career coach, Kelsey Briggs-Dineen who helped him update his resume, prepare him for interviews and more.
“Isaac took advantage of every opportunity available to him,” said Kelsey. “He successfully completed IT Career Lab’s training program and earned two certifications: Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).”
Isaac was impressed with the level of knowledge he gained throughout his time in IT Career Lab. “I was expecting help desk support and training skills with the certifications, but it ended up being so much more than that,” said Isaac.
Isaac’s hard work and passion for technology paid off and he decided to enroll at DePaul University to continue his technical studies and pursue his bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity! “I like cybersecurity. You’re constantly learning things,” said Isaac. In addition to continuing his education, Isaac was hired at DePaul to work as a Genius Spot Technician!
Good luck, Isaac!
